This website is a service for people who are seeking information about DBT (Dialectal Behavior Therapy).
This site has been created by PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN THROUGH DBT, not DBT professionals.
If you are looking for a DBT provider in your area, I suggest you begin with www.bpdresourcecenter.org, www.middle-path.org or www.behavioraltech.org. Neither this website or its owner are able to provide those resources. You may also ask for referrals from your therapist, psychiatrist, and/or insurance provider.
Formal DBT Instruction Please don’t be confused by the title, “DBT Self Help.” This site is not meant to replace formal DBT therapy. It is simply a place to find some helpful day-to-day DBT stuff. The materials here are suitable for refreshing or supplementing your DBT training.
What you can find on this site: Information about DBT, Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and Marsha Linehan, the founder of DBT as a therapeutic practice. Note: the articles in this section only were written by DBT professionals with their permission.
You will also find A list of DBT Skills along with practical exercises, assignments and comments from other DBT participants.
The DBT “Lessons” were created by myself and other DBT participants based on our experiences of practicing the DBT skills.
Everyday DBT is a mix of the most requested information as well as my thoughts on ways to keep DBT alive in our day-to-day work. This ever-expanding section contains Extra DBT Documents, including sample personalized diary cards, affirmations, alternate behaviors for crisis situations and more. There are also Questions and Answers, a collection of emails I have received about common questions regarding DBT. Finally, I’ve posted some of my personal thoughts about life and trauma recovery.
You can also find links to DBT information elsewhere on the internet and a site map.
As requested, I’ve added information about how to print the materials on this site.
For the exact handouts and worksheets you can purchase Marsha Linehan’s book, “Skills Training Manual for Treating Borderline Personality Disorder” by clicking this link.
If you would like to read more information about specific disorders, I like the clarity of information provided on the following links: Borderline Personality Disorder Narcissistic Personality Disorder Bi-Polar Disorder

Flash Update - Here’s something really important! Have you ever wished you could talk to the psychiatric professionals about your viewpoint on borderline personality disorder (BPD)? At Mount Sinai, a research study was approved, looking at BPD patients' viewpoints of the current diagnostic criteria. You can complete an anonymous on-line survey about your thoughts on the current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders' (DSM) criteria for BPD and your thoughts on what should or shouldn't be included in the criteria for BPD in the next edition of the DSM. To participate, please follow this link: BPD Study. MAKE SURE YOU COMPLETE ALL THE QUESTIONS, otherwise your answers won’t be considered. LAST DAY TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SURVEY IS SATURDAY, JUNE 6, 2009!
Recent Updates Coming in June, 2009 This website is being completely reworked. I look forward to bringing you some interesting news, new links, information about recent publications, and more. I appreciate the emails I have received from some of you letting me know how helpful this site is for you. Working on this website is by far the most rewarding volunteer work I could imagine.
I am painfully aware that the links page is horribly outdated. So, again, I appreciate your patience.
ERROR UPDATE Please note that the links to Behavioral Tech on this website should go to behavioraltech.org, not .com!
DONATIONS NEEDED! If you feel able to make a donation, please click here to read more.
If you would like to know when this site is updated, you can sign up to receive a notice by email.
Do you feel like the DBT skills are just too difficult to master? Read on. . . .
I’ve added 2 more mindfulness exercises by Dr. Dennis Merritt Jones. Dr. Dennis also has a new bookk out called “The Art of Being.” For more information about the book, click here. For more information about the author, click here. To purchase the book, click here.
A New Book about BPD! Tami Green, a BPD consumer who testified before Congress with an engaging story of her experiences with the disorder, has written a book, Self Help for Managing the Symptoms of Borderline Personality Disorder. You can purchase the book on her website. You can also view her presentation at the Congressional Briefing at this link.
Copyrights We appreciate the permissions granted by the authors or publishers for the use of their materials on this site. Please visit the Copyright Page to learn more about how you can use the materials on this site.
If you find mistakes or broken links, feel free to email me and I’ll fix them as soon as I am able. There are a lot of changes. I’d like to hear what you think of them as well as any ideas or suggestions if you care to email.
